Let's face it, life is busy. Between working full-time to the second shift after work with family to maintaining a home that somehow always has something breaking, living in the 21st century is not for the weak. When you're trying to work from home, all you can see is the clutter and chaos around you. Should I attempt to fold that laundry while I'm on this call? I hear little footsteps and know someone's coming to ask me another question. Oh no! That doctor's appointment started 15 minutes ago! Then throw in traveling for work and crossing your fingers that your home doesn't implode without you. You're in desperate need of someone to come in and help create some semblance of peace and order. Today we're sharing three ways an organized home can support your career (and life). A Career-Oriented ClosetYour day starts in the closet. If you can barely walk by the piles of "is it clean or dirty laundry?" and your hung work blouses are stuffed in with your weekend loungewear, you're doing yourself a disservice and starting off the day stressed. With a professionally organized closet, you'll have items you actually wear and that make you feel good. Your clothes will be hung or neatly folded in easy-to-navigate categories like work blouses, work pants, long-sleeved shirts, t-shirts, etc. Enhance your confidence by curating and decluttering your wardrobe - and by not having wrinkled clothes shoved together with too little room to hang or clothes lying on the floor. With an orderly closet you can get dressed quickly and out the door in the a.m. Mornings are when we can harness the most focus and energy for difficult tasks. No more wasting precious brain power on finding what to wear! (There's a reason former President Obama and Apple co-founder Steve Jobs wore the same look each day). We set you up for success by creating super-easy-to-maintain systems, but if those piles start piling again and you don't want to or have time to deal with it, we have routine maintenance services to continue keeping things tidy. A Practical, Tidy PantryGrocery shopping is a necessary evil. It sneaks up on you every week (or multiple times per week) and it always feels like you just did it yesterday. It's time for this again? Having an organized pantry makes the grocery shopping process much less dreadful. With a quick glance it's clear what you have left and what needs to be put on the grocery list. Speaking of lists, we recommend keeping a running digital grocery list on your phone and shared with your spouse and anyone else who lives with you that has a phone. Train (OK, I mean kindly ask multiple times) your housemates to add items to the list that are running low or are out. Even better, if they put the last ketchup bottle in the fridge, have them add a new one to the list so it's not added after the ketchup is already gone. Grocery pickup can be your friend as well (hello Target drive-up). Add it all to your cart and you don't even need to go into the store (perfect when kids are in tow on the way home from daycare pickup). If you work from home and your kids are on break, having a tidy and labeled pantry means kids and spouses can find snacks independently and your workday isn't interrupted constantly. An organized pantry also means you're not accidentally stockpiling eight expired boxes of protein bars. No more buying duplicates because you couldn't see what was in there or finding a ton of gross expired food. Read more tips for a tidy pantry here. A Helpful, Systematic HomeWe love our families. They're why we do what we do and work so hard. But two things can be true. We can love them more than anything AND abhor coming home after a busy day and staring down hours of second shift housework. Talk about exhausting. Just like how a body in motion tends to stay in motion, an organized and tidy space tends to want to stay an organized and tidy space. People don't want to live in clutter. Once they see and feel how a tidy space is, they'll get more on board with helping keep it that way. You've decluttered the excess so there's space to breath and store items. There's less to maintain and less for tiny hands to pull out and scatter about. The biggest way things stay tidy is that now everything has a home. Mail goes here, keys here, coats and shoes there. People thrive on systems and routines. For example, it's hard to tidy a playroom if there's no system or set way to tidy it. But if your kids know that all stuffed animals go in this basket and all play food goes in this labeled bin, it's much easier for them (and you) to understand and uphold. You don't have to (and shouldn't) be the only one keeping things tidy. You'll likely have some pushback at first, but it will be worth it when your family is chipping in and realizing how darn good a tidy home feels. You work so hard and do so much for everyone else. You carry the mental load, and you may feel like how your home looks is an outward reflection of who you are and how well you're doing. Just like you don't do your own hair and you go to the dentist for deep cleanings that you can't do on your own, it's OK to bring in help for organizing your home.
Yes, it's an investment. You're investing in your career goals by stopping the mid-day distractions and decreasing morning decision fatigue. You're investing in your family's mental and physical well-being. You're teaching them how to live and thrive in an organized environment. Say goodbye to all this unwanted stress and hello to a tidy and happy home. Take a look at our organizing guide to learn more about our process and pricing. You've got this! Warmly, Sandi
